Description
Grows well in all soils. Can grow in wet areas. Feathery light green foliage turns cinnamon brown in fall. Extremely long-lived.
The bald cypress is an unusual and interesting tree that can grow to more than 100 feet tall. They are broad-topped in the wild, but young and middle-aged trees are pyramidal. While it looks like an evergreen, the bald cypress is actually deciduous and drops its leaves in the fall. Its foliage is lacey and yellow-green, turning golden brown then red before falling. Its bark is brown and fibrous, similar to that of cedars. It's a good shade provider in summer and allows full sunlight after its winter leaf fall. It bears no flowers and insignificant fruit. The wood is fairly durable and has many uses in outdoor construction.
